Outcomes of YVDF Workshop Day

Held at the St Swithins Parish Hall Sept 2004

 

Good awareness;

Sharing of views;

Main priorities emerged for the different topic areas of:

 

Movement

Facilities

Culture

 

Movement

Priorities are:

  • improving public transport (rail and bus),
  • tackling congestion caused by school traffic,
  • addressing problem road junctions,
  • improving provision for cyclists and pedestrians through lighting,
  • new/ improved routes,
  • new and better crossings,
  • improved maintenance.

 

 

Facilities

Priorities are:

  • create a user friendly town centre,
  • increase diversity of shopping,
  • improve appearance of shopping areas,
  • new development to fit in with character of Yateley,
  • support light industry at Blackbushe,
  • a centralised leisure facility (a centre of excellence),
  • improve access to lakes,
  • better youth facilities,
  • access for disabled,
  • sport for all ages.

 

Culture

Priorities are:

  • preserve/ enhance Yateley Green,
  • enhance the historic centre of Yateley,
  • address the need for car parking near the historic centre,
  • provide youth drop in facilities,
  • better community events,
  • improve sports facilities.

 

 

Conclusions

 

  • Support for Village Design Framework objectives
  • Need for ideas to be drawn together quickly
  • Support for recognition/ adoption by HDC
  • Support for carrying out improvements on the ground
  • Support for further involvement by members of the community
  • Need for wider view – Parish Plan – to accommodate full range of issues

There will be 3 levels of community involvement:

 

  • Plans Steering group

 

HCC, HDC, YTC, YTCMG, Yateley Society, business, education, voluntary action, resident,

 

churches together, representing different sectors of the community

 

 

  • Stakeholder group

– based on those who took part in the workshop and any other interested members of the

 

community

 

  • Full public consultation

– all members of the community
